Odoo or PANTHEON is not a choice between a universally better and worse ERP. The right choice depends on the processes you must connect, the edition and features you actually buy, and how the system will be implemented and maintained. Both products can cover more than accounting, so the comparison should use your own documents and exceptions.
Updated in September 2026. This article keeps its original title and URL, but the comparison and sources have been checked again. MAXCODE implements Odoo, not PANTHEON. The article is therefore written from an Odoo implementer's perspective, without claiming that Odoo is right for every company.
What should you define before comparing Odoo and PANTHEON?
First, write down one process from beginning to end. An example could be the path from a customer enquiry to a quotation, order, delivery, invoice and payment. For each stage, state who enters the data, who approves it, which document is created and what happens when the standard flow does not apply.
Then repeat the exercise for purchasing, inventory and accounting. If you manufacture, include bills of materials, material requirements, work orders, consumption and the return of finished products to stock. If you work by project, check the connection between sales, completed work, costs and invoicing.
This list is more useful than a generic module comparison. A feature name does not show how much configuration, extra functionality or manual work is required to fit your process.
What do PANTHEON and Odoo cover today?
PANTHEON cannot be reduced to accounting and invoicing. Datalab's official overview for PANTHEON Manufacture lists sales and purchasing, orders, inventory and warehouses, accounting, human resources, business process automation, basic and advanced work orders, production planning and scheduling, and business reporting. The exact scope depends on the licence and feature combination, which should be checked in the official PANTHEON functionality overview.
Odoo is a suite of connected business applications. Its official documentation covers CRM, sales, purchasing, inventory, manufacturing, accounting, projects, field service, eCommerce and other areas. Availability of individual capabilities depends on the edition, applications, localisation and configuration. Check the current scope in the official Odoo applications documentation.
The length of either feature list does not prove that a system will suit your company. What matters is whether the proposed configuration can complete both a normal case and an exception without unnecessary re-entry of data.
How should you compare two ERP systems using real processes?
| Area | Question for the demonstration |
|---|---|
| Sales | Can an accepted quotation continue to an order, delivery and invoice without re-entering data? |
| Purchasing | How are suppliers compared, a purchase order approved and a partial delivery recorded? |
| Inventory | How are physical, available and reserved quantities distinguished across multiple locations? |
| Manufacturing | How does an order or plan create material requirements and work orders? |
| Accounting | How do operational documents reach accounting, and which local obligations are covered by the proposed configuration? |
| Integrations | How does the system connect to an online shop, bank or other applications, and who maintains the connection? |
| Changes | How are upgrades, customisations and changes to legal or business rules tested? |
For each row, ask for a demonstration with data similar to yours. Alongside a normal case, include a return, partial delivery, price change, delayed approval or incorrect entry. This shows the process rather than only the final screen.
When can PANTHEON be a reasonable choice?
PANTHEON deserves serious consideration if you already have a stable process, users and an accountant who know it. Migrating only because another system has a different interface is rarely sufficient justification. First calculate what does not work today and whether better configuration of the existing system could solve the problem.
It can also be a candidate for a new implementation when the relevant edition covers your accounting, trade, inventory, human resources or manufacturing needs. Official materials show several licences and usage models. The proposal should therefore identify which features are included, which are contracted separately and who is responsible for implementation.
When can Odoo be a reasonable choice?
Odoo can make sense when you want to connect processes around shared customers, products and documents, such as CRM, sales, purchasing, inventory, manufacturing, projects and accounting. It may also suit a specific process that requires configuration or controlled development that can be maintained across future versions.
That flexibility is neither free nor automatic. An Odoo project requires analysis, decisions about responsibilities, data preparation, testing and training. If you need only a few clear records and invoicing, a connected ERP may be unnecessarily complex. You can review the broader business scope on the business software page.
How can you compare cost without unsupported figures?
Do not compare only one monthly line item. Use the same worksheet for licence or subscription, analysis, configuration, data migration, integrations, customisations, training, support and the time of your own staff. Include the cost of changes after an upgrade and data export if you later replace the system.
PANTHEON publishes several licences and options for purchase, annual updates and hosted rental. Check current terms in the official PANTHEON licence price list. For Odoo, the edition and subscription should likewise be separated from the implementation project. A practical framework is available in the guide to the cost of business software.
How should you run a process proof before deciding?
Choose ten real documents and remove personal or confidential data. Prepare two scenarios: one normal and one containing an exception. Ask each provider to complete them live in the exact edition and configuration being proposed.
Record what is standard, what requires configuration, what needs an extra feature and what requires development. Ask who maintains a customisation, how an upgrade is tested and how you can retrieve your data. This step remains useful even if you ultimately choose neither of these systems.
Odoo or PANTHEON: how should you make the final decision?
Choose the system that reliably completes your priority processes with an acceptable implementation and maintenance model. PANTHEON is not merely accounting software, and Odoo is not a finished result as soon as applications are enabled. In both cases, the quality of analysis, configuration, data and user involvement strongly affects the outcome.
MAXCODE implements Odoo and does not sell or implement PANTHEON. If you want to check whether Odoo fits your process, send a description of one specific workflow. I will tell you directly when Odoo is a reasonable candidate and when changing systems would be unnecessary.
